Totem pole

Working with 80 Key Stage 2 children in one day we created two totem poles based on traditional Native American stories. We introduced the children to totem poles and their cultural meaning before reading them each story. The children then worked in small self-directed groups to create the patterns and textures using a range of natural and made objects including dried beans, bottle tops, pegs, art straws, rawl plugs, pasta and twigs.
